Volunteers Needed

~ We need your help!! ~
The month of September is a huge month for us!  We have organized many community-wide diaper drives throughout the Piedmont Area and we need volunteers to help us staff the collection boxes and share information with others in our community.  This is a great opportunity for small groups, friends, scouting programs, churches, etc. to share a few hours to support the Piedmont Diaper Bank.

If you can volunteer for a 2 hour shift at one of the diaper drives below  (there's probably one near you!), please sign up on our online volunteer sign up sheet or email us at PiedmontDiaperBank@gmail.com.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently recruiting some volunteers to help us manage the growth of the diaper bank and we would love for you to help us!

There are many ways to volunteer at the diaper bank.  Many opportunities can be done from your own phone and/or in places where you already frequent.  Most of the work can be done along with your children, or by email and phone.  There are ways for people to make a difference with just 5 hours a year, 5 hours a week, or anywhere in between!  There are also a few leadership opportunities for those of you looking for an impressive way to fill that “mommy gap” (or "daddy gap") on your resume while you stay home with your kids!

Take a look at the opportunities below, then send us an email and let us know how you can help!  Our most needed positions are listed first, then there are several volunteering ideas organized by time commitment.

MOST NEEDED
(training and support is offered for all positions)

Shift Worker – approx.. 3 hours/month; staff our diaper bank on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-11:30am at our facility in downtown W-S; pack diapers and coordinate donations to agencies during the shift. (Shifts are kid-friendly, bring some toys!)

Pack Diapers – approx.. 2 hours/whenever; no training or commitment needed; families and groups welcome; usually Tuesday mornings at our facility in downtown W-S

Diaper Drive Coordinator – approx..10 hours/month, coordinating mostly through email, phone and some driving around; helps organizations as they plan diaper drives

Administrative Assistant – approx.. 10 hours/month, can be done mostly from home computer; needs to be comfortable with Excel and other general computer/office tasks

Fundraiser Committee – short term commitment to plan our annual fundraiser in the fall, most likely a committee meeting once a week for about 2 months, plus organizing and communicating with others during the week.  We need 1 or 2 Chairpeople and a handful of committee members to share the work together.

Agency Coordinator – approx.. 10 hours/month; coordinating with the agencies who need diapers; can be done mostly from home computer with email and phone, but will need to come in once a month to keep tabs on inventory

Opportunities by Time Commitment:

If you have 5 hours/year
·      Ask a few businesses for donations to our silent auction fundraiser
·      Organize a diaper drive at your school or church
·      Pack diapers (bring your kids and/or friends) on a Tues morning

If you have 25 hours/year

If you have 10 hours/month

WISH LIST (special talents or time investment)

Webdesigner – someone to update and revamp our website, or someone to seek out a school or organization who will do it for us on the cheap!

Social Media Manager – someone to build a following on facebook, twitter and pinterest among our supporters

Grant Writer – someone to write us some grants, or someone willing to go to FTCC and learn how to write grants for us

Supporting Tiny Tushes and Green Bums!

Earth Day was Sunday.  Hopefully with all the hype for the holiday, you've gotten some great ideas about how you can ensure that we are passing along a safe and beautiful world to all the "tiny tushes" among us.  (If you don't feel "green" enough yet, check out the Earth Day Fair at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds this Saturday)

In honor of Earth Day, Piedmont Diaper Bank is proud to launch our new program for cloth diapers!  Most of our agencies report that cloth diapers are not a viable option because of limitations from daycare centers and access to laundry facilities.  However, these are not obstacles for every family.  For families that would like a sustainable, economical and ecological solution to the on-going expense of disposable diapers, we are happy to provide cloth diaper kits that include a full supply of cloth diapers, several diaper covers, a wet bag for storage of soiled diapers, some laundry detergent and instructions for washing and taking care of the diapers.

The cloth diaper program is sponsored by Hip Bottoms Cloth Diapers.  We are so grateful for our partnership with Hip Bottoms, providing much needed expertise and follow-up for the families that are learning how to use and wash cloth diapers appropriately.

You can support this program too!  Donate at our special fundraising page Green Bums for the Piedmont Diaper Bank and your donation will directly go to our cloth diaper program.

Are you a fellow "cloth diapering parent" and want to help?  There are several ways you can help:
  • Volunteer to provide phone and/or email support to new parents trying to figure out the ins and outs of cloth diapering.
  • Is your child(ren) potty trained yet?  Rejoice!!! And celebrate by donating the used-but-good-condition diapers and diaper covers to Piedmont Diaper Bank.  Contact us for information about where to drop off your donation.  If you do not live locally, you can mail your donation.  Contact us for more information - PiedmontDiaperBank@gmail.com
  • Volunteer to serve on our Cloth Diaper Committee and help assemble kits and distribute them.
  • Donate financially at Green Bums for the Piedmont Diaper Bank
Cloth Diaper Kits will be distributed through our partner agencies.  If you have questions about eligibility, contact us at PiedmontDiaperBank@gmail.com.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help us expand the reach of the Piedmont Diaper Bank to provide diapers for babies in need. We would like to establish a presence in more communities and we need local representatives in these areas in order to grow.

To apply, send an email to PiedmontDiaperBank@gmail.com indicating the position you are interested in. Thanks!

· Deliver collection boxes to drive sites and pick up diapers at the end of the drives

· Record inventory of diapers from each drive and report to the PDB

· Coordinate with PDB on delivery of diapers to the bank storage and to donation agencies.

The coordinator is free to work on their own schedule as they coordinate with the organizations, but they may need to be available some during the work day to effectively provide the support for the diaper drives. The coordinator should be able to use MS Word (or another compatible word processing program) and communicate efficiently via email and phone. Training will be provided and the coordinator will work closely with our directors for ongoing support and assistance as needed.

We are specifically looking for coordinators in the following areas: Davidson, Davie, Forsyth (Kernersville), Guilford (Greensboro), Guilford (High Point), Stokes, Surry and Yadkin Counties.
